Ryan Butler's once promising baseball career came to a crashing end twenty years ago. Now, he's an unhappy lawyer in an unhappy marriage. His life is going nowhere ...until an old friend of Ryan's is found comatose on a park bench. This old friend, Steve, vanished from work earlier that day with a quarter of a million dollars. The money is mysteriously missing and the police have no clues.
Dazzled by Steve's gorgeous young wife, who may or may not be as innocent as she seems, Ryan risks everything to find the truth behind his friend's coma. His quest leads him to the California wine country, to a strange scientific experiment in Wisconsin, to the halls of power in Washington, and finally to a small island in the Caribbean.
On the island, Ryan stumbles into a CIA plot to capture a rogue agent in the act of selling a terrifying new weapon to a foreign government. Will Ryan's search for the truth botch the CIA's operation? Ryan's life and the world's balance of power are at stake in this fast-paced thriller.

Breaking Free grabbed my attention from the beginning and moved along quickly. It was a good read for a long plane ride. I liked the pace, the variety of venues and the rapidly developing plot. Lubitz does a good job of shifting viewpoint and putting us into the head of the bad guy as the suspense builds. He leads the reader to a surprising ending with an opening for a sequel.Product details

Breaking Free Rob Lubitz 9781462052868 Books Reviews
I am a fan of espionage thrillers and usually read authors like Clancy, Ludlum, Cussler and others. I found this book to be in that class with the plot, style and "capturing ability" holding my attention making it difficult to put down!! I look forward to the sequel!!!!

Great plot, good writing, excellent characters. Will keep you guessing till the very end.
great book, a lot going on, moves fast.
I had the opportunity to read this book while vacationing on an island- perfect setting for a good read! You will enjoy this book if you like fast moving books and suspenseful twisting plots. It was a quick and easy read for me, great characters and consistent flow of story. I'm waiting for a sequel!
I use two main criteria for judging a thriller is it entertaining; and would I read a sequel? Breaking Free wins on both counts. The book held my interest well as it moved through various characters, subplots, and locations. I found it hard to put down. After the end, I am anxious to see if Ryan Butler will return with another adventure. This is an excellent start for a new author and I look forward to seeing more.
I enjoyed the book. It kept my interest, closed all the loops, and made you want to read more about the main character and what happens next. I can't wait to start the next book in the series.
Rob spins a complex, yet coherent, yarn involving national security, individual persistence, good guys and not-so-good guys. It is a great read.
